REBEL DEZIGNS · TUTORIAL ARCHIVE
Steampunk Princess
An original Photoshop tutorial by René Kunert (giZZY), rebuilt from the preserved archive.
Materials Needed:
- Mask and Template from me
- Sweet Steampunk scrap kit from P&A Dezigns
- Tube by the artist of your choice. I am using Anjara. This tube was purchased from MyPSPTubes.com but is now available at PSPTubesEmporium!
Open the template and mask in Photoshop.
Select the background layer of the template and use your move tool to move your mask directly onto your template. Simply drag and drop it over.
Hide all of your layers except your mask (just to see it better).
Click the eye icon beside the layer to hide it.
Select > All
Edit > Copy
Select > Deselect
Now we want to enter Quick Mask mode.
Select > Edit in Quick Mask Mode
Now we just paste in the selection.
Edit > Paste
You should see a red area everywhere the black is located.
Now to edit Quick Mask, we just go back to Select > Edit in Quick Mask Mode.
Now you will see a selection all around your white area.
Select > Inverse
Now just hit delete on your keyboard.
There will be a black halo around your mask. If you want to get rid of this halo, go to Layer > Matting > Remove Black Matte.
You should be left with just the white portions of your mask.
Now you can unhide all of your layers again.
Now let's add some layer styles to our template.
Create a new 20x20px image and fill it with #fdba96
Filter > Noise > Add Noise: 15, Gaussian, Monochromatic
Now Edit > Define Pattern
Just close this image without saving.
Select the Large Circle layer and add these styles:
Right click the layer and choose Blending Options.
Select your Sliced Circle layer and add a stroke:
Inside
2px
Black
Select the Small Circle Borders and add these styles:
Add a stroke to the Small Circles layer:

Select the Large Circle layer and open Paper2.
Move it onto your tag and Create Clipping Mask.

Move it onto your canvas and Create Clipping Mask again.
Select the Small Circles layer and open Paper3.
Move it onto your tag and Create Clipping Mask.

Here is how your layers pallet should look now:
(rename your layers like these for ease of the tutorial. Double click the name in the layers pallet to rename.)
Select the paper layer that is clipped to your mask (mine is Paper5)
Open Cog04 and place it on your tag as shown in my finished tag.

Open rosebloom1 and move it onto your tag.
Edit > Free Transform:

Edit > Free Transform:
Now add a drop shadow to each of these elements. Right click and choose Blending Options. (default will work, but play with the settings to get just the right one for your tag)
Add any other elements you wish to the tag, adding a drop shadow to each one.
Ok here is what I have so far:
Select the paper layer that is clipped to your Small Circles layer. (mine is Paper3)
Now we want to add our tube. Place your tube on your tag and position it over the top left circle.
Right click and Create Clipping Mask.
Duplicate your tube layer (right click > Duplicate Layer)
Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal.
Position it over the bottom right circle.
Right click and merge down with the other tube layer.
Now open the blending options and changed the fill opacity to 50%.
Select the topmost layer of your tag.
Place your tube on the tag again and position about center.
Give this layer a drop shadow.
Add your copyright information.
Add a name to the tag, or other wording you wish.
Open Paper2 and place it on your tag. Create Clipping Mask.
Select your Name layer again and give it a stroke and shadow.
Image > Trim
