Steampunk Visions
An original Photoshop tutorial by René Kunert (giZZY), rebuilt from the preserved archive.
Materials Needed:
- Prepared mask of choice. I have made my mask specially for this tag.
- 2 Scrap Kits from CrazyCarita. Antique Junkyard and So Trashy
- Tube by the artist of your choice. I am using the work of Michi. Please do not use this image unless you have a license to do so.
Open a new 550X500 canvas. (or whatever size you would like to work with)
Place your prepared mask on the canvas. (just drag and drop)
Open a paper of your choice and place it over the mask.
Right click the paper in the layers pallet and choose Create Clipping Mask.
Right click the paper again and choose Merge Down.
As always, I am not going to go into great detail on where to place your elements. This is an individual preference. So I will just show you what I have done.
Remember that you would use the Edit > Free Transform option to resize, rotate, and place your elements.
Right click each of your element layers in the layers pallet and choose Blending Options.
Give your elements a drop shadow of choice.
Remember that varying your shadows will give your tag more depth.
Open your tube of choice and place it on the tag. You may move the tube up and down in the layers pallet to get it exactly where you want it. You may also erase bits of the tube that stick out where it isn't supposed to.
Add a drop shadow to your tube just as before.
Select the topmost layer and add those credits. I find it is easiest to remember to put them on directly after the tube.
Now add a name or snag phrase to your tag.
Add styles of your choice using the Blending Options. (right click in the layers pallet)
I used a stroke, gradient overlay and drop shadow.
And this is my result:
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial! I would love to see your results.
