Unconventional Valentine
An original Photoshop tutorial by René Kunert (giZZY), rebuilt from the preserved archive.
Materials Needed:
- Kit by P&A Dezigns called Unconventional Valentine
- Tube by the artist of your choice. I am using Barbara Jensen. Please do not use this image unless you have a license to do so. This tube can be found in the Mini Pack CC in the Mini Packs category.
Tips:
- Right click the thumbnail of a layer and Select Pixels for the same effect of the PSP float/defloat option.
- Using layer masks, you can erase portions of a layer without destroying the layer.
- Clipping masks are your friend.
- Use the wand tool to select the inside of frames and then Selection > Modify > Expand: 5-10 pixels. Then add a new layer below the frame and fill with white. This will add the inside to your frames. You can then clip a paper to the filled layer.
This tutorial is going to be different than most of the tutorials I have done. This one is just for inspirational purposes rather than showing you exactly what to do with your tag. This one is open to TONS of interpretations.
This tutorial requires at least the basic knowledge of how Photoshop works.
I am not going to go into what element goes where in this tutorial.
So instead, I will just show you where I placed the elements I have used:
When placing your elements, you would position, resize, and rotate them by using the Free Transform in the Edit menu at the top of your screen.
You will see a bounding box surrounding your element.
Use the corner dots to resize the element.
To keep the proportions of your element, you would click the chain link at the top of the screen:
If you hover outside the bounding box, your cursor will change into a rounded arrow.
You can rotate the element by clicking and moving either left or right.
Right click an element layer and choose Blending Options.
Give it a drop shadow of choice.
I have varied the drop shadows to give it more depth.
Highlight the ribbon frame layer and use your selection wand to select the inside of the frame.
Create a new layer and fill the selection with white.
Move the layer below the frame by dragging it down in the layers pallet.
Open a paper of choice and place it on the tag.
Right click the paper in the layers pallet and choose Create Clipping Mask.
Open your tube of choice and place it on the tag.
Move it up or down in the layers pallet to position it where it is best suited.
Give this layer a drop shadow also.
ADD THE COPYRIGHTS!
Add a name and give it a layer style of your choosing. There are tons of layer styles you can use.
Here are a few places you can get some or you can purchase some from your favorite scrap store.

That's it, you are done!
Wow, I think this was the longest tutorial I have ever written :lmao:
Save your tag as a .png or .jpg
And this is my result:
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial! I would love to see your results.
